Squadron History
HMM-262 was formed in 1951 and was redesignated as VMM-262 in 2013 when it received the V-22 Osprey.
An old website at https://www.hmm-262combatvets.org/ is still there and still has some good stuff. Most of the links still work, although some links (all links in “Reunions”) go to a “404” page which has no useful information and no apparent useful function. Incredibly, the site seems to have been constructed entirely with html. Someone, probably Bill “Frenchie” Bourgeois, spent an enormous amount of time on the squadron history and collecting comments and pictures from squadron members. Really good stuff. All of the files seem to be there but reassembling them into a coherent website with something like WordPress would be a huge puzzle. However, it has a lot of good memory-joggers for those who were there and is worth preserving in its current form. The hosting contract was renewed for three years in July 2024 so it should bee safe for a while.
